Obituary for Gene Douglas Vance

Gene Douglas Vance, 88, of Shinnston passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Stonerise Nursing Home in Nutter Fort, WV. He was born on August 26,1932 to the late Homer Vance and Beryl Miller Vance.

Gene is survived by his children; Kirk Vance and his wife Charlene of Clarksburg, Rodney Vance and his wife Heather of Willow Springs, N.C., Kent Vance and his wife Barbara of Shinnston, Valerie Vance of Meadowbrook, Robbie Vance and his wife Rhonda of Shinnston; sisters, Sandra Newbrough of Shinnston, Sharon LeuLiette of Parkersburg; brother, Baron Vance of Warren, Ohio; grandchildren, Timothy Vance and his wife Mary, Josh Vance and his wife Nona, Misty Dawn Taylor and her husband John, Travis Vance and his wife Marlie, Jenna Swisher and her husband Brett, Trevor Vance; great-grandchildren, Abigail Vance, Lydia Vance, Nathan Vance, Noa Vance and Korbin Vance.

In addition to his parents Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife Norma Bice Vance; brother, Charles Vance; sisters, Betty Bowman and Diane Keiffer, grandson, Ian Vance .

Gene was a graduate of Shinnston High School and was in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked at Williams Mine for 10 years and retired from Lockheed Martin with 31 years of service. Gene was a member of St. John's Lodge #24, AF and AM. and he attended Jewel City Church.

Friends and family will be received at Harmer Funeral Home, 300 Pike Street Shinnston on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Friday, February 26, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a funeral service following at 12:00 PM with Pastor Robert Shingleton officiating. Interment will be at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
