Betty Jane Wade

Betty Jane Wade, 94 of High St. Salem departed this life on Saturday, June 4, 2016 in the Golden Harvest Home, Bridgeport. She was born in Morgantown on January 13, 1922 to the late Herschel D. and Esther Blanche Sharp Wade.
Surviving are two nephews, R. Edward Harbert Jr. and partner C.J. Hale, Parkersburg, Brice W. Tidrick, Hocking Port, OH, two nieces, Rebecca Harbert Creamer and husband Jacob, Lumberport, Melissa Tidrick Emerson and husband Roy, Morgantown, great nieces, Jocelyn Marie Oldland and husband William K., Morgantown, Cassandra Joy Emerson and companion Larry Taylor, Morgantown, Amanda Jane Emerson and wife Holly McMillen, Morgantown, Heather Dawn Tidrick Hayes and companion Donny Morgan, Belpre, OH, great nephew, Jeremy Roy Emerson, Morgantown, nine great great nieces and five great great nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathleen Wade Harbert, Phyllis Wade Schlegel, Martha Marie Wade, three brother-in-laws, R. Edward Harbert Sr., Ralph E. Tidrick and Woodrow Schlegel, one great nephew, Walter Maxson, one great great nephew, Austin Hayes.
Miss Wade was a 1939 graduate of Salem High School and attended Salem College and graduated from West Virginia University in 1943. She obtained her Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois in 1953. Miss Wade was retired from the Harrison County Board of Education where she served as Librarian at Shinnston and Lincoln High Schools from 1943-1987. Betty had also taught Library Science at the University of Tennessee, Marshall University and West Virginia University. She was a member and past President of the Shinnston Women's Club, a member and past President of the Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of the Harrison County Retired Teachers Association. She was one of the original members of the Shinnston Area Development Association where she served as secretary. Betty was a lifetime member of the American Association of University Women and the American Librarian Association. She was a long time member of the Salem United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:00AM with Pastor Kevin Bender presiding. Interment will follow in the K of P Memorial Park, Salem. The family will receive friends in the Harmer Funeral Home 300 Pike St. Shinnston on Monday, June 6, 2016 from 3-7PM and on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W.
