Catherine “Kitty” (Oliverio) Pulice, 96, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Meadowview Manor in Bridgeport.
She was born in Viropa, near Shinnston, on June 27, 1920 to the late William and Mary Pignianelli Oliverio. She was a 1939 graduate of Shinnston High School where she was a majorette. Kitty often recounted many stories of great fun while she was a high school student. After high school, Kitty attended West Virginia Business College and earned an Administrative Assistant Associate’s Degree. She was an Administrative Assistant for the Boy Scouts of America and the Veterans Administration Hospital. She left the work force to care for her children, and after raising her family, Kitty was employed by the Harrison County Board of Education for 10 years as a Kindergarten Assistant, a job she dearly loved.
Kitty was married to the late William J. ‘Bill’ Pulice. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Sally Anne Pulice (Gary Wildasin) of Annville, PA and her son, William J. ‘Billy’ Pulice II (Cynthia Timms Pulice) of Bridgeport, her four grandchildren, Megan Elise Wildasin Kerwin (Oliver), Robert Wildasin (Mary), Jaryn Royce Pulice Phelps (Chris), and Chiara Marie Pulice, and her four great-grandchildren William Patrick Kerwin, Vance Robert Kerwin, Sadie Lynn Wildasin, and Alex Joseph Wildasin. A great grandson, Robert Francis Wildasin, predeceased Kitty. Many nieces and nephews also survive Kitty and will miss her.
Kitty was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her sisters, Josephine Oliverio, Irene Belota, Antoinette Anderson, and Rosa Lee Defrance and her brother, John Oliverio preceded her in death. Many of Kitty’s sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law also preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Frank Pulice (Martie) of Shinnston and sister-in-law, Betty Riley of Barberton, Ohio. Kitty is also survived by a special cousin, Mary Fazalare of Shinnston.
Kitty worked tirelessly for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk. She canvassed Shinnston and much of Clarksburg as she gathered donations for the annual event. She was an avid West Virginia University fan, and she followed all WVU sports. Kitty was especially proud of her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception and All Saints Catholic Churches. Her family wishes to thank the Eucharistic Ministers of the Immaculate Conception and All Saints Catholic Churches who faithfully visited and distributed Communion to Kitty, when she could no longer attend Mass. In addition, her family will be eternally grateful for the consistent care and kindness that caregiver, Misty Holt, graciously provided for five years. In her final years Kitty resided at The Meadows of Maplewood and most recently Meadowview Manor. She was attentively cared for by the entire Meadowview Manor staff and owners Traci & Tom Henderson. The family also wishes to thank Anna Nutter, her dedicated Hospice Nurse of two years, and all of the Amedisys Hospice staff for their comforting care during the final days of Kitty’s life.
