William Jacob Shingleton, 72, of O’Dells Knob entered glory Tuesday, October 25, 2016 after a brief stay in the hospital. He was born June 20, 1944 in Harrison County, a son of the late Sheldon Roy Shingleton and Madge Marie Layfield Shingleton. Also preceding him in death were his mother-in-law, Effie O’Dell, several sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley M. McClain and her husband Richard, Betty O’Neal and her husband Bill, Nancy McIntire and her husband Junior, Mildred McIntire and her husband Ivan, and Myrtle Halpenny and her husband John, also one brother-in-law, George Simon.
He is survived by his wife, Minda Shingleton, whom he married August 29, 1964; three children, Melissa DelRio and her husband, Lou, Shinnston, William “Jake” Shingleton II of O’Dells Knob and his special friend Lori Hinzman of Pine Bluff, Chris Shingleton and wife Tracy, O’Dells Knob; five grandchildren, William “Jake” Shingleton III, Danielle DelRio, Kallie Shingleton, Kaitlyn Shingleton, Krislyn Shingleton; Sisters Norma Simon of Bridgeport, Libby Butcher and her husband Gail of Monongah; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bill retired as a supervisor of Lumberport Shinnston Gas Company after 40 years of service. Bill was a member of Wyatt Union Fellowship Church and attended Bible study at Covenant Family Church. He was a proud graduate of Mannington High School Class of 1962, and still enjoyed his annual class reunion.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, and papaw. He enjoyed hunting and spending time in the woods of Doddridge County with his sons and grandchildren. He loved his farm, his animals, his gardening, his grandchildren, singing with his family, but most importantly he loved His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston from 2-8 PM Friday. A funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 29, 2016 with his son, Pastor Chris Shingleton and Pastor Roy Clark officiating. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F.
