Thurza Margaret Sharpe Righter, 91, of Clarksburg passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at United Hospital Center. She was born February 08, 1926 in Harrison County, a daughter of the late William R Sharpe, Sr. and Helen Sharpe. She was married for 57 years to Luther Smith Righter, Jr., who died November 30, 2004.
She is survived by her son, William S. Righter and wife Susan, Bridgeport; her daughter, Lou Etta Bowen and husband Michael, Milton, WV; 4 grandchildren, Robin Righter, Shinnston, William S. Righter, II and wife Jennifer, Clarksburg, Jamie Sines and husband Russell, Bridgeport, and Bryan Bowen and wife Sarah, Youngstown, OH; 9 Great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Marlyn Kay Borror and Rebecca Mosley and husband Gary, Stuart, Florida; 1 Sister in-law Charlotte Sharpe.
Preceding her in death were 3 brothers, Senator William R. Sharpe, Jr. and wife Pauline, Robert W. Sharpe and wife Sue, and Thomas H. Sharpe; 4 sisters, Elizabeth Gibson, Barbara Lee Sharpe, Helen Louise Stull, and Patricia Minehart.
Mrs. Righter was formerly employed by C & P Telephone and William R. Sharpe Electric. She graduated from Victory High School in 1944 where she had the distinction of being the first female drum major. Her memberships included the First United Methodist Church, Clarksburg where she was past president of United Methodist Women. She was a member and past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston from 4-8 PM Thursday and Friday at First United Methodist Church from 10-11AM. An Eastern Star service will be at 7:30 PM Thursday. A funeral service held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 117 N 2nd St. Clarksburg with Rev. Greg Godwin officiating.
