Aunt Carol, the friend

My sympathies to all the family and friends of Aunt Carol. Of course she was a wonderful aunt to me as a child, making us pot roast and touring the garden and playing cards on our many visits. You may not know she became an aunt that's a friend during my adult life. My first "career" job landed me in Cincinnati. Uncle Wayne and Aunt Carol met me in the city (a big deal to have family show up) when I was there to interview. When I took the job offer I needed a bit of help as I was finding housing. In the transition, they welcomed me into their home as I commuted to the city for several days. I had no qualms about moving to live on my own because I knew they were nearby. Aunt Carol made me buckeyes, the chocolate candy with peanut filling, to welcome me to the Buckeye State and I had never had them before. I have had many since but none as tasty as hers. Once I moved there, I visited often and after a while I brought along my then-fiance Tom who loves it on their farm. They are always welcoming and half the time we gave them almost zero warning but would make time for us. We visited much less frequently once we married and I moved to Indiana, but would show up out of the blue when we could fit in their side trip on our way between places. Always welcome, Always smiles, Always Aunt Carol and Uncle Wayne together on their farm. It is hard to say good-bye but she will Always be a part of me.
